Update: Driver cited for accident that injured bike rider

Posted: Updated:

A bike rider is recovering after he was struck in traffic in Hardin County over the weekend.

Troopers say the accident involved two vehicles and a bike.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 96 just north of Lumberton on the Village Creek Bridge.

Investigators say a white Taurus was hit by a silver Taurus, causing one of the vehicles to hit a man, identified as Ricky Lynn Cary, of Lumberton, who was riding a bike.

Cary was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by medical helicopter.  A DPS spokesperson says Cary had a compound fracture in one leg and several other minor scrapes and bruises.

The driver of each vehicle received only minor injuries.

One of the drivers, identified by the DPS as Chindra Michael, was charged with failure to control speed which is a Class C misdemeanor.
