Construction Underway for Incarnate Word's Athletic Complex

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Monday's groundbreaking at Incarnate Word Academy is the first of a multi-year, $4.3 million renovation project that will include an athletic field, gymnasium and an expansion of the elementary campus.

For the students and faculty, it will give aspiring athletes at the campus a chance to train and compete at the same level as other schools.

"This is a cinder track and field that was renovated in 2000, and we had identified that it has outlived its useful life," IWA President Charles Imbergamo said. "It will be replaced with an all-weather six-lane practice track, and there will be a re-grading of the soccer field and the irrigation system, and some new fencing; and then on the northside of the field, there will be a batting cage for baseball and softball, and cages for the students to practice golf."

The new facilities will be used by the elementary, middle and high school students. The project should be complete within three to five years.
