Corpus Christi-Born Woman Crowned Miss United States
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
We had a special treat Thursday at the Kiii studios, as Miss United States 2012 paid a visit.
Whitney Miller dropped by to show us her crown and sash. Miller actually finished as first runner up in the July competition, but was informed two weeks ago that the original winner, Miss Ohio, had been stripped of the crown due to misconduct.
Before being crowned Miss United States, Miller was Miss Texas, and before that she was Miss Corpus Christi.
Miller said a lot of people criticize pageants because they don't really understand all that goes into them.
"They think we just walk on a stage and we're pretty and that's just how it is, but it's not," Miller said. "A lot of work goes into it. We're always out in our communities volunteering, and so really being a positive role model for girls and showing them that whatever they put their mind to, they can seriously do it."
Miller graduated from Flour Bluff High School in 2007. She wants to one day become a television host.
