Officials in Alice gathered at the Alice Public Safety Training Center Thursday as American Electric Power presented them with a $10,000 check.
The money will be used for purchasing a back-up generator for the training center and emergency operations facility.
Wade Smith, president and CEO of AEP, said the company feels very strongly about contributing back to communities where their employees live and work.
"You know, we drill at AEP Texas at least once a year to be prepared for a major event like a hurricane hitting us, and we talked about how to coordinate with the cities and be engaged with the city and county governments as we're trying to restore things, and so I think centers like this are critical for that response," Smith said.
The Alice Public Safety Training Center doubles as an emergency operations center during times of emergency. The facility used to be an Army Reserve Training Center.
