Scripture signs stolen from Kountze yards

Posted: Updated:

They are signs you can't miss if you drive through Kountze, but there's not as many today as there were when they were placed in yards near the roadway.

The signs were made in support of the Kountze cheerleaders and cite Bible scripture. More than two dozen of the signs were stolen from yards down Williford Road Saturday night.

Residents tell 12News HD this is the second time signs have been stolen from the area.  Several neighbors say they have reported the thefts to police.

The Kountze cheerleaders are fighting for their right to continue using run-through banners with Bible Verses on them for use at football games.  The banners were banned by the school district in September after officials say they received a complaint from a group called the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The girls received a temporary restraining order extension on October 4th which allows them to use the banners for two weeks.

The cheerleaders and their attorneys will return to court on Thursday.
