City Gas Department Transmitter Reported Stolen

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A $3,500 transmitter used by City Gas Department crews was reportedly stolen on the job Monday.

"Eventually, we think we're going to recover it, but it's unfortunate," Assistant City Manager Oscar Martinez said. "But one of the things we need to do is go back and  consider our procedures, that whenever we're using this equipment, we make sure we don't leave it in a place where it could be taken."

It happened Monday afternoon at Greenbay and SPID in Flour Bluff. Police said they don't know of any witnesses to the theft, and they said it is a pretty specialized piece of equipment and wouldn't be of much use to anyone other than City utility crews.

They are asking anyone who may have come across it to give Crime Stoppers a call at 361-888-8477.
