Rain Leads to Discovery of Family Dollar Burglary Attempt

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Police said the Tuesday morning rain showers may have prevented a crime from taking place.

A hole was found in the ceiling at the Family Dollar store on Ayers Tuesday, when rain started gushing in. Further investigation led to the discovery of some tools used to make the hole. Police and the store's manager believe it was to help someone break into the store.

"Roofers finally ended up getting here, and when they got here they found a hammer, a flash light and stuff up on the roof," Family Dollar Manager Melissa Priddy said. "Looked like someone was trying to make their way into the store. Thank God they didn't. Not that we can see that they did, anyway."

About $100 worth of product from the store was ruined by the rain, and the store was closed for the rest of Tuesday as roofers made repairs.
