Japanese Mayor Visits for Sister City Program Anniversary

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

You may find it hard to believe, but this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Sister City relationship that the City of Corpus Christi has had with the people of Yokosuka, Japan.

To help mark the occasion, the mayor of that city, Yuto Yoshida, as well as some City Council members and other officials from Yokosuka arrived in town Wednesday to help celebrate the milestone.

The Sister City program allows local high school students a chance to visit Yokosuka to learn about the culture there, and live with a sponsor family, while students from Japan come here to learn about our customs and culture.

Officials hope this partnership can continue.

While in town, the group from Japan will be visiting the U.S.S. Lexington, the Texas State Aquarium and the Port of Corpus Christi.
