School officials say a Nederland ISD third grade student is being disciplined after a teacher found an unloaded pistol in the student's backpack.

Nederland ISD Superintendent Robert Madding tells 12News the gun was found Tuesday in the backpack of a student at Hillcrest Elementary.

Teachers became suspicious when the student appeared nervous and kept looking at his backpack.

According to our News Partner the Beaumont Enterprise, the gun found is a Taurus 380 semi-automatic pistol and a gun case with bullets in it.  Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter told the Enterprise the student took the gun from his mother's night stand and brought it to school to teach his friend how to shoot.
