CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A transformer exploded in a northside neighborhood, causing a power line to break and creating a series of power outages throughout the uptown area of Corpus Christi.
Lupe Dominguez's home was ground zero. She has lived in her home on North Staples and Winnebago for close to 19 years. That is where it all started around noon Friday.
Residents in the neighborhood heard a series of small explosions followed by popping sounds. Apparently, one of the power lines broke, dropping onto the ground and starting a small fire.
"This is the second time they do that, and it burned all my TVs and stuff like that," Dominguez said. "Left me with nothing. Had to start all over again."
The outage, which was expected to last only an hour, affected downtown signal lights and dozens of businesses and homes.
