It was a sad discovery on the National Seashore Friday afternoon, as a spinner dolphin was discovered washed up on the beach.
The dolphin was discovered in the morning near mile maker 11. Volunteers with the Marine Mammal Stranding Network jumped into action to save the dolphin. They took it to the Texas State Aquarium's Sea Lab facility, where it is said to be in critical condition.
"It is way too early to tell anything. What we do right now is a lot of diagnostic testing so we look at the blood, get weights on the animal," said Jesse Gilbert of the Texas State Aquarium's Sea Lab. "We look at different cultural samples from the animals, run those to labs, get results as fast as we can and get it on some treatment plan, depending on what we see."
