Salvation Army Hosts Culinary Classes to Teach Skills

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It is a lesson in cooking that the Salvation Army hopes will get some less fortunate folks back to work.

For a while now, the shelter has been hosting a culinary school of sorts for those looking to learn a payable skill.

Those who take part in the school have to go through 6-10 weeks of training, including putting on a series of catered events, like the one they put on Friday, which featured local dignitaries including our own John Thomas and Alan Holt.

"They go out into the community. I help them build their resume. I go out there and help them line up job interviews, and then hopefully they get that job and stay with that job," said Marc Puente of the Salvation Army. "It's getting someone back on their feet."

If you would like to take part in the culinary classes, you can just go by the Salvation Army and ask to take part. The lessons are ongoing.
