Community leaders gathered for a press conference this morning where American Airlines made the official announcement that air service will begin out of Jack Brooks Regional Airport next year.
"We see Beaumont to be apart of our future for many years to come," said Brett Hooyerink with American Airlines who not only made the official announcement that airplanes are returning to the airport but also that his company plans on having a long relationship with southeast Texas.
"It's not just a two year deal," Hooyerink said American Airlines wants the community to know that they want to be here forever.
And we may have heard those promises before from other airlines but Hooyerink said they took into account what those other airlines did and learned from their mistakes.
"For service to be successful long term we need commitment from the community to use it," said Hooyerink.
Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick is sure our local residents will show their commitment even though the flight from here to Dallas is about $25 more than a flight out of Houston.
"That will be more than off set by the cost of parking that you have to pay in the Houston area and the gasoline you have to spend in the drive over there," said Judge Branick.
Saving you from having to deal with the uncertain price at the pump and in turn American Airlines is excited to help southeast Texas grow economically.
American Airlines will begin flights out of jack brooks on February 14th.
There will be four flights a day and tickets will go on sale November 4th.
United presently does offer bus service from Beaumont to Houston Intercontinental Airport and they say they will continue that while there is a need.
