Thursday's rally at Vincent Beck Stadium prevented Nick Lampson from attending a forum hosted by Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas for Congressional District 14 candidates.
Republican candidate Randy Weber accepted his invitation but only spoke to a small crowd.
In a room that could easily fit 100 people, there were just more than 10 inside the Jury Impaneling Room of the Jefferson County Courthouse.
The voices of Republican Candidate Randy Weber and Green Party Candidate Rhett Rosenquest Smith were the only sounds in the room aside from applause at the beginning of the forum.
Despite the turnout, Weber was enthusiastic about reaching out to the constituents who showed up.
"Know what I spent this morning doing? Knocking on doors. When we get to talk to one voter, we're excited," Weber said.
Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas had hoped for a good crowd despite the announcement of a visit from Former President Clinton in Beaumont the same night.
Clinton's visit is one that many believe will add firepower to Democratic Candidate Nick Lampson's campaign.
Weber said he's not impressed.
"Lampson is playing to his base, Lampson is an Obama supporter, he's a Pelosi supporter, he's part of the democratic team that got us where we are now 4 years of failed policies," Weber said.
Green Party Candidate Rhett Smith on the other hand feels it hurt his chances to reach constituents.
"I understand if you're a democrat you want to see Clinton but voters really need to know about these important issues," Smith said.
Going into the final weeks before election day, Weber's hopes are high that he will soon be representing District `14.
He feels no need to counter Lampson's visit from Clinton.
"I think what you're going to see, the voters are going to counter him," Weber said.
Weber and Smith answered questions on six different issues ranging from healthcare to border security. They were given three minutes to answer each question.
