Local Organizations Prepare to Help During Hurricane Sandy

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Resources have already left to begin helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

American Electric Power has already sent crews from across the state, including crews from here in Corpus Christi. They all met at the Victoria Service Center to make preparations before heading out to West Virginia to help the Appalachian Power Company restore service.

In all, 81 AEP Texas employees and 38 contract workers were sent to help restore power. They may send additional resources, depending on what is needed after the storm hits.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross has already sent a local crew. They left this weekend before the transportation department was closed down, and are helping set up shelters and waiting for the hurricane to pass.

If you would like to donate to the American Red Cross, you can visit their Web site here.

Officials with the local Salvation Army said they are on standby, waiting to hear how they can assist after the storm.
