Nueces County Seeing Impressive Early Voting Turnout

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

With just eight days until election day, it looks like early voting in Nueces County could surpass the large voter turnout of four years ago.

Back in 2008, just over 35-percent of the registered voters cast their ballots early; but this year, the numbers are looking even more impressive than that.

Nueces County Clerk Diana Barrera said that right now, after seven days of early voting, nearly 18-percent of all registered voters have cast ballots. She said an average of 500 ballots are cast every hour in Nueces County, and that Nueces County now ranks among the top 15 counties in the state in terms of early voting.

"It's exciting to be in that ranking itself, too," Barrera said. "So we're pretty excited about the turnout. We just want more people to come out."

Early voting locations will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. everyday through Friday.
