You may not have heard about this organization before, but Police Chief Floyd Simpson is counting on it to help him fund some initiatives that will help with officer training and safety.
The Citizens in Support of Corpus Christi Police Foundation put on a luncheon Tuesday at Texas Roadhouse, and top police department brass and members of the media were invited.
Local car dealer Ed Hicks is the Foundation's president, and he gave everyone a little overview about the two-year old group. Hicks said they are not looking to hand out bonuses or salary increases to officers, but to raise the department's standards.
Simpson said he is working on a million dollars-worth of ideas to allow the organization to do just that.
"I have this vision that, when it's all said and done, we'll look into the coffers and there will be at least a million dollars there," Simpson said.
The chief said the community is large enough to support the Foundation. He mentioned a police academy as one of the projects the group could fund in the future.
