Local Red Cross Chapter Called On to Aid in East Coast
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The local chapter of the American Red Cross is being called on once again to send additional support to the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Jerry Hayden from the Rio Grande Valley is one of two Red Cross volunteers who will be heading to the east coast. He said he has been volunteering his time with the American Red Cross for the last 30 years of his life, and said he is a born disaster worker; but in order to provide those services, the American Red Cross depends on those of you at home for your help as well.
"The big thing we need is monetary support," Hayden said. "As you know, the Red Cross is dependant upon donations. We don't have any taxes collected to support the organization. It's all volunteer money that supports us. We hope to spend your money properly and put it to the most effective use possible."
