Port Neches discusses, drops idea of banning texting and driving

Posted: Updated:

Drivers in Port Neches won't be facing penalties from the city for texting while driving anytime soon.

The Port Neches City Council discussed the possibility of drafting an ordinance that would ban texting while driving in the city.  The idea came from Councilman Don Anglin.

Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine was chosen to research ordinances from other cities.

The idea of a ban was countered by Councilpersons John Davenport and Julie Gauthier who thought a ban would too difficult for police to enforce.

The council ultimately turned it down.
