High School Students Honored at Omni Bayfront

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Some future leaders of America were honored Tuesday for their volunteer work around the Coastal Bend.

One senior and one junior from each area high school were honored by the Optimist Club at a special luncheon at the Omni Bayfront. The students have been volunteering around the area for the entirety of their high school career, and on Tuesday, they were rewarded for the example they set for other students.

"It's basically recognizing a junior and senior at area high schools for their optimism and the work they do at the school," said Elizabeth Saenz, superintendent of West Oso Independent School District. "So we had counselors select the students we are going to be recognizing."

"We get the satisfaction that we know that we're helping our youth grow, and to become young adults that will be youthful citizens in the future," Optimist Club President Bill Cornelius said.

Over a dozen students were honored at Tuesday's event.
