Last month, it was Corpus Christi Mayor Joe Adame reading to kids at George Evans Elementary. This time it was Corpus Christi Independent School District Superintendent Scott Elliff's chance to help set an example that reading is fundamental.
It's part of the Lead and Read program going on over at George Evans. Each month, they select a community leader to stop by and read to kids at the school.
"Everything we do as adults in the community serves as an example to these youngsters," Elliff said. "They are watching what we are doing all the time. We want to have them see us dong things that are going to benefit them in life, and reading is obviously something they need to be doing."
Elliff said another reason the school holds the program is to give the kids a chance to meet some of the leaders around the community, and get a sense of what they do for a living.
