Free Diabetes Management Class Offered in Robstown

Posted: Updated:
ROBSTOWN (Kiii News) -

There is no excuse for diabetics not to learn about diabetes management here at home.

In fact, the Texas A&M Health and Science Center has just started offering free diabetes classes to folks out in Robstown.

The first class got underway last week, and there is another one on Friday. These free classes give patients a deeper understanding of diabetes that they don't often get from their doctors.

"This disease brings on lots of life threatening complications, so we're seeing an increase in people coming to the class and wanting to take care of themselves," Registered Nurse Hermelinda Basurto said.

"If we can prevent using insulin or other medicine, then it's good for people to take this class," pre-diabetic Ermelinda Gonzales said.

There will be more classes offered in December. Call 361-857-2945 if you would like to learn about signing up.
