CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Local schools recognized Veterans Day on Monday, inviting vets and active-duty military personnel to take part in their celebrations.

Some very special visitors made their way to Kostoryz Elementary on Monday.

Students there were visited by current active duty personnel of our U.S. military from Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. They were there to give kids some insight on what it is like to serve in the military.

"I think that it is very important, because they are helping us and we should thank them," fifth-grader Merysa Cortez said.

The visit was part of a Veterans Day celebration that Kostoryz held throughout the day.

Students at Incarnate Word Academy were also celebrating veterans and observing what they have sacrificed for our country.

In observance of Veterans Day, Incarnate Word Academy middle schoolers hosted a Veterans Day ceremony, where they expressed their gratitude by praising them for what they have done. Also, students presented each veteran a rose.

Officials at the school said that it is important for every student to thank a veteran, because they ensure our right's to liberty and freedom.
