CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Thanksgiving is about a week away, and on Wednesday, folks at Valero were busy making sure some of the less fortunate in the Corpus Christi area have a happy turkey day.

"All of our employees donated food. We're going to be giving them out to 70 different organizations," said Maria Araiza, of Valero. "We're very excited."

Valero workers gave more than 3,000 pounds of food items this year. In addition to the food, gift cards will be given to families to purchase turkey and other cooking items needed to make Thanksgiving special.

Food baskets will be distributed to area churches and Gibson Elementary, Driscoll Middle School and Miller High School.
