Flour Bluff Kindergarten Student Takes Handgun Replica to School

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

According to the Flour Bluff Independent School District Web site, a handgun was discovered in a backpack belonging to a kindergarten student on Thursday.

A press release stated that the child alerted his teacher to the gun's presence, and she immediately reported it to administration. The Corpus Christi Police Department and Child Protective Services were brought in to investigate.

As of 2 p.m., CCPD determined that the gun was actually a high-quality replica, not capable of firing. The child told them that the gun had been on his dresser for some time, and he took it to school to show others.

The press release did not specify whether or not CPS is still involved in the investigation. Kiii News will have more details on 3News tonight.
