Smokers Attempt to Quit at Great American Smokeout

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Quitting cold turkey with the help of smoked turkey is just what some smokers were trying to do on Thursday, courtesy of Rudy's Barbecue.

"If you just pledge to be smoke-free for 24 hours, you get a certificate to get a free turkey sandwich," said Ozzy Vela of Project Turnaround.

It is all part of the Great American Smokeout event. The first 250 smokers who pledged to put down tobacco, for at least one day, were rewarded with a delicious smoked turkey sandwich.

In addition to the sandwich, participants were given a packet filled with helpful tips to quit smoking.
