Local Schoenstatt Movement Hosts Holiday Sale Fundraiser

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Volunteers with the local Schoenstatt Movement are busy trying to raise money to keep their center operating. Friday was the first day of a two-day holiday sale at the center on Gaines Street.

The Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt, a Catholic Marian movement, was founded back in Germany in 1914 as a means of spiritual renewal in the Catholic Church. The movement is named Schoenstatt, which means "beautiful place."

The group is hoping to raise enough money to pay taxes and keep the facility open.

"So it was needing money, and that is why we are having this sale," volunteer Gloria Alvarez said. "We had a sale at the beginning of the month, but because we didn't advertise as much, we didn't sell everything. So now we are hoping to raise more money for the center just to maintain. Just to pay the bills."

The holiday sale continues from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.Saturday at the Schoenstatt Center, 4343 Gaines. It is behind Seaside Cemetery. For more information, call 361-992-9841.
