Local Softball Teams Band Together to Help the Food Bank

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Some Corpus Christi softball teams went above and beyond the game this weekend in an effort to make this holiday season a little brighter for those in need.

It was a group effort between local teams to collect food for the needy, and their efforts paid off in a very big way for the Food Bank of Corpus Christi. A trailer full of food was collected by the teams.

As incentive for the teams, their entry fees go to the winners of the largest collection.

"It's a great opportunity to be able to give back to our community and get to play the game that we love at the same time," shortstop Celeste Silvas said.

"It feels great giving them what they need," second-base player Alliana Rodriguez said. "Things that they don't have like we do."

Each year during the holiday season, the Food Bank of Corpus Christi runs low. If you would like to help, they would welcome your support. Kiii's annual Share Your Christmas event is coming up on Dec. 7.
