City Council Signs Off to Buy New Motorcycles for CCPD
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
City Council signed off on a deal Tuesday to buy three new police motorcycles.
Right now, the department has eight officers in its motorcycle traffic unit. All the policemen buy their own bikes to ride and patrol the streets, and the City gives them $600 a month to basically rent them out for use.
Chief Floyd Simpson has wanted to get the unit riding the same bike and to present a more professional appearance, and that is now going to be the case.
"What we do is, the officer goes out and buys a motorcycle, and we pay the officer $600 to lease it," Simpson said. "We need to all have the same."
Eventually, nine bikes will be purchased, and all will be Harley-Davidsons. This is the first time the department has purchased street bikes for traffic.
