CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A suspected car thief made a run for it after he was pulled over for a routine traffic stop on Friday.

Officers were running radar on McArdle Street and originally stopped the vehicle for speeding; but when they ran the license plates, it turned out the car was stolen from a home on Friday morning.

The teen driver sped off and drove to the La Palmera Mall, where he bailed out of the vehicle and made a run for it inside of Dillards.

"Fortunately, we have a lot of off duty officers working the mall due to the holidays," said Lt. Art Trevino of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "So we were able to kind of secure the mall really quick, and they found him at the food court area."

The teen was charged with car theft and evading arrest.
