Small Business Saturday Benefits Business Owners, Local Economy
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Nestled between the hustle and bustle of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, an opportunity for locally owned stores to increase sales.
It is an opportunity that small business owners like Tom Neagli, who owns Bay Area Bicycles, look forward to each year.
"The small mom and pop shops are kind of forgotten and dying across the nation, and this is what really helps the local economy," Neagli said.
Bay Area Bicycles is one of the dozens of local businesses to receive free American Express gift cards from the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.
"You spend over $50, we give the customer a $25 gift card to help with purchase," Neagli said.
"The Chamber got a $5,000 grant from the U.S. Chamber," said Foster Edwards of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce. "The grant was in the form of American Express gift cards. We distributed them to businesses around town."
It is a relatively new concept, but Small Business Saturday has proven to be a success, something that is not only good for business owners, but for the local economy as well.
