Residents Share Concern Over Recent Rash of Burglaries

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Residents in one Corpus Christi neighborhood are fed up and fighting back, after their streets have recently been hit by a slew of burglaries.

Neighbors said that the person behind it is one of their own neighbors, and now, residents are coming together to try and figure out how they are going to keep their belongings safe.

"I feel violated," said John Garza, whose home was burglarized. "It's a very unpleasant feeling to have your house broken into."

Garza has lived in the neighborhood for 13 years and has never had a problem, until now. It turns out that residents who live on Susan and Whitaker have seen their belongings disappear, and they say they know who the thief is.

According to the residents, the thief is one of their neighbors, someone who lives right down the street; and for them, that is the worst part.

"Especially when you have tried to help out as much as you can and he turns around and stabs you in the back," Garza said.

Garza was targeted by the thief recently. His Playstation, some games and a jewelry box were stolen; but other neighbors said they are missing tools, and some even reported missing TVs.

"It's frustrating and it's scary if they are breaking into the house while you are in there," said Virginia Sandoval, a resident in that neighborhood. "That's really scary."

Police said they found some of the stolen loot Sunday afternoon. They are aggressively investigating each burglary case, and they think they know who is behind the break-ins. They will continue to work the cases until the thief is behind bars.

In the meantime, neighbors will do what they can to keep their things safe.

"We are all getting together now and trying to keep an eye out on everyone's homes," Sandoval said. "Everyone works. We are going to try and come up with a neighborhood watch."

Neighbors just hope that police catch the crook quickly. Only then will peace return to their once quiet neighborhood.

If you are interested in starting your own neighborhood watch, here is what you can do. Get as many people involved as possible, and come up with a patrol schedule; but don't wait until it is too late. It is always best to take action as soon as you notice a steady increase in crime.
