Woman Hit by Car Dies in Hospital Over the Weekend
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A woman died in the hospital this weekend after she was hit by a car on SPID at around 4 a.m. Friday, just outside the Plaza Motel in Flour Bluff.
According to police, 29-year old Lora Herrera was upset about not being able to see her kids. Investigators said she took off running across the highway and was struck by a vehicle. They are still trying to determine if the woman was intentionally trying to hurt herself.
However, family members say this was not the case.
The driver was pulled over near the JFK turnaround and told officers he didn't realize he had hit anyone. He was taken in for a mandatory blood draw to determine if any alcohol was in his system. It will be weeks before the results are in.
Herrera was a organ donor, and she left behind three daughters. An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
