City of Alice Looking to Hire New Police Chief by February

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

The City of Alice is reportedly getting closer to hiring a new police chief. There are 54 candidates who have applied.

The City plans to conduct a series of interviews, all aimed at narrowing the field down to five semi-finalists by January.

City Manager Ray De Los Santos, Jr., admits Alice now faces some big city problems, and that the City is looking for individuals who have experience in reducing gang activity and narcotics trafficking.

"We're on the corner of Highway 44 and 281, two major transportation corridors," De Los Santos said. "We have a trade population of around 100,000, and so while we're a city of a corporate population of 20,000, because of our geography, and because of our trade population, we see some of the things that a city of 100,000 would see."

De Los Santos said he expects a new police chief will be in place by late February.
