Bee County Makes Preparations to Host Annual Winterfest

BEEVILLE (Kiii News) -

Preparations are underway in Beeville for the biggest event of the year in that community. It's called Winterfest, and it is expected to bring in lots of people and money.

Winterfest is really a music fest that will be held this Friday and Saturday night. The economic impact that Winterfest has on the community is huge, in the tens of thousands of dollars.

The workers at the Bee County Expo Center are getting that venue ready for Winterfest by watering the ground and padding down the dirt so that the surface will be hard. Folks, after all, will be dancing on that surface this weekend.

Winterfest will be held at the Rodeo Arena number one at the Expo Center. The event is put on by the Bee County Chamber of Commerce and its tourism center. This is the third year the event has been held.

Isabel Ramirez, the county's tourism director, said Winterfest brings in tourists and visitors from all over, and that means people are staying in local hotels and spending money in local businesses.

"If we can just have visitors to come in to experience Beeville, that's kind of what we want them to do, you know," Ramirez said. "Once they get here for the music and the entertainment, they can explore and experience the food that's here from German to British, you know; and so, there's a lot of other opportunities, experiences that people can have here in Beeville."

Among the acts performing this year are Siggno and Grupo Duelo on Friday night, and then Randy Rogers Band on Saturday night, as well as Jon Wolfe and James Lann.

The tourism center over at the Chamber of Commerce has received calls from people from Houston and San Antonio that are interested in Winterfest, and they are expecting people from the Hill Country all the way to Laredo to turn out for the event.
