SAN ANTONIO (Kiii Sports) - The Flour Bluff Hornets had just one play left to keep their undefeated season alive.
The Hornets trailed sixth-ranked Leander 27-23 with just seconds to go and faced a 4th and 20 from the Leander 26 yard line. That's when senior quarterback Kolton Mims scrambled and lofted up a pass to fellow senior Will Mendiola who hauled in the prayer and was then mobbed by his teammates and fans on the sideline.
That miracle touchdown gave Flour Bluff the stunning 27-23 win over Leander and sent the Hornets to 13-0 for the first time in school history. It'll also be the first state quarterfinal appearance in school history when they face Rouse next Saturday at 7 pm at Texas State University.
That wasn't the only huge play on the Hornets' game-winning drive. Mims had earlier set up the potential winning play by eluding defenders and scrambling 64 yards down the left sideline to the Leander 16.
