Texas Windstorm Insurance Association Holds Local Meeting
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Folks who set policy for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association met in Corpus Christi on Tuesday. Part of their job is to make recommendations on future insurance rates.
The board has been under fire from coastal communities after insurance companies proposed a 40-percent increase in premiums. Over the past two years, State Representative Todd Hunter and others have been fighting to keep that from happening.
"We have their attention, and they are listening," Mayor Nelda Martinez said. "And we're going to have to look at something that's achievable, that will be fair across the whole state and not punish us for what, frankly, Mother Nature does to every single city in this state at some point and some time."
Area leaders say they have a windstorm plan they will unveil in coming weeks, which they say will be fair to insurance companies and their customers.
