CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It was a big day for one officer in the Corpus Christi Police Department. Early Wednesday morning, Lt. Michael Alaniz was promoted to the rank of captain.

Alaniz was hired back in 1998, and worked as a patrolman for several years before moving up in the force to community relations. His superiors said he was the first officer to embrace social media, which in turn made a huge impact on the community.

"I'm very proud, and I want to thank all the police officers," Alaniz said. "It's a great feeling to get promoted within our department, and I'm very proud."

Also in attendance at Wednesday's ceremony were his wife of 23 years and his mother.
