CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It was a chaotic scene Monday afternoon near Lantana and I-37, as a traffic accident led to a manhunt.

The accident happened just before 4:15 p.m. on Corn Products Road and I-37. One of the drivers fled the scene as police arrived. One unit spotted what they thought was the suspect's vehicle, turning into this home on Lantana and Hampshire. The driver got out and ran from police.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in, but the suspect still managed to get away. A search of the vehicle turned up a stolen handgun. At this point, police don't believe the vehicle was involved with the accident on Corn Products Road.

"Again, it was just by coincidence that the officers observed this vehicle, and the vehicle then fled," said Lt. Isaac Valencia of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "The operator of the vehicle fled from the police, and the net result, a gun that was stolen was found and the suspect fled."

As for the vehicle that left the scene of the accident, police think through witness statements they may be able to track down the driver.
