Holiday Packing Party Held to Fill Gift Bags for Seniors

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The holiday season will be a little brighter for some area seniors, thanks to the folks at the Nueces County Community Initiative Council.

On Thursday, they held their annual holiday packing party. The group assembled more than four dozen gift bags for Adult Protective Services; bags that case workers will provide to seniors currently on their caseload.

"We are a volunteer board. We are able to go out into the community and ask for donations for this," said Mary Lou George of the Nueces County Community Initiative Council. "And Valero Volunteer Council has been very generous to us and has a shower for us once a year, and they have donated a lot of these items that you see behind me. There is a church group also that makes lap blankets for us at Christmas time; and again, it's a little something extra that we put in these Christmas bags for these clients."

The Christmas bags contain such items as non-perishable foods, hygiene products, blankets and other items that will be of benefit for seniors.
