Some students at Evans Elementary got a chance to get some new clothes on Friday, and school officials said most of the clothes that were donated were used immediately.
"I'm already calling out kids that I know that need clothes that I have just seen, and so they are already changing and putting on their new clothes," Assistant Principal Amanda Cameron said. "They are really excited about it because we will have some students that will wear the same clothes for two or three days."
It was a project that the Port of Corpus Christi employees had been working on for about a month. It was their Christmas Clothing Drive.
They have been collecting new and slightly used kids clothing, anything from jeans to jackets and even socks.
On Friday, the Port employees delivered the clothing items, and as soon as they were coming out of the box, the principal was handing them out to the students that needed them the most. She said the need is so great, that more than 52 students don't even have a jacket for the winter months, and they are always taking clothing donations.
