Lockdown Status Lifted at Three Area Schools

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Corpus Christi Independent School District has reported that three area schools were placed on lockdown for a little over an hour as police working in the area searched for a suspicious individual.

In a preliminary report from the Corpus Christi Police Department, a CCISD police officer saw a man yelling at the corner of Tiger and Carroll lanes. He was wearing a brown vest, yellow sunglasses, a yellow shirt and camouflage pants, and he was carrying a black suitcase. CCPD were called to check on the mental status of the man, and a search began.

As a precautionary measure, the CCISD placed Carroll High School, Kostoryz Elementary and Yeager Elementary under lockdown. This is standard protocol when police are actively searching for any suspects in the areas surrounding CCISD schools.

In an audio message from Lorette Williams, Director of Communications for the CCISD, it was reported that the lockdown lasted about an hour and a half. She stressed that the lockdown was, "standard operating procedure anytime police are looking for a suspect in the vicinity of a school." She also said that there was no threat on any of the campuses.

"We know there is a heightened sense of concern, and that is why we are notifying you about this standard operating procedure," Williams said in the audio recording.

The lockdowns have since been lifted at the three campuses.
