Catholic Schools on Lockdown as Precautionary Measure

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

All local Catholic schools were put on lockdown Monday after a series of reported threats came from a man who police say they have investigated before.

Police said the most recent threats came last Friday, when a man made a threatening phone call to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. That man was arrested Monday in San Patricio County, and is currently going through mental evaluations.

As a precaution on Friday, administrators put the school located right next door to the parish on lockdown. Throughout the weekend, police were monitoring the church.

On Monday, as a safety measure, all Catholic schools were put on lockdown. Children were kept indoors all day long, with locked doors in the classrooms.

"Everything has been pretty much safe," said Rene Gonzalez, superintendent of the Catholic Diocese. "None of our schools were under threat. We have good people in place, who know that our priority besides teaching is to keep our children safe."

All Catholic schools will return back to normal schedule on Tuesday.
