Madi's Rainbow Project Brightens Holidays for Kids with Cancer

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

There is a special little girl who is helping to brighten up the holidays for the young patients at Driscoll Children's Hospital.

Four-year old Madison Beckwith, who has been waging her own battle with leukemia, has managed, with the help of her family, to bring smiles to other young children who have been waging similar battles.

She has been through a lot in her young life. A little over two years ago, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mom, Misty, setup a Facebook page focusing on her daughter's battle to fight the disease. People began sending all kinds of gifts to the little girl.

The response to Madi's Rainbow Project was so overwhelming that she and her parents decided to try and get people to donate presents for other children at Driscoll Children's Hospital.

"She understands, she knows when people bring stuff over to our house or when I come home from school with a box full of stuff, she knows that it's not for her and she knows that it's for the kids that are sick in the hospital," Misty Beckwith said. "She remembers when people would bring things to her when she was in the hospital, so she understands."

Dr. Cris Johnson has been treating Madison for her leukemia, and said she is not surprised about Madi's Rainbow Project idea.

"This doesn't surprise me at all. I mean, she and her family have a huge, generous spirit," Johnson said. "It wasn't too long after she was diagnosed that she participated in the Relay for Life in Flour Bluff, and she had a huge amount of followers and was really able to raise awareness in that community to the plight of children with cancer."

Madison and her family have not forgotten all the help and support they received, as they handed out presents at the hospital to those children who also know what it means to have to fight for your life.
