Martin Middle School Students Raise Money for Food Bank
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The season of giving was on clear display Tuesday at Martin Middle School as some students there donated a big check to the Food Bank of Corpus Christi.
The students raised $265. That is enough money to hand out 3,300 meals to those in need. Believe it or not, it can actually purchase up to 4,400 pounds of food.
The kids raised the money by charging $5 to have a free dress code for the last three days of school.
"It's extremely exciting," said Debra Bruce of the Food Bank of Corpus Christi. "When kids get involved in making donations back to their community to help those that are less fortunate, it's always an exciting thing."
"I find it very exciting because I usually don't get to do this a lot, and I like to do that," said Maria Garza, and eighth grader at Martin Middle School.
