Authorities Investigating Suspicious Fire-Related Death

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters were called out to a house fire on the 1500 block of 7th Street just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, only to discover a dead body inside.

Police are now calling the man's death suspicious.

Fire investigators do believe the fire was intentionally set to cover up a crime, but the Nueces County Medical Examiner will not know the exact cause of death until Thursday.

The fire was not huge, but did damage the apartment-style house, which is located on the 1500 block of 7th Street between Elizabeth and Booty Streets.

The medical examiner said the victim was male, and they are working to identify him. Both arson and police detectives are now investigating.

"Don't know if it was intentional or not," said Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "That's something the experts are here to evaluate, if it was intentional at all."

If you know anything about this incident, call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
