Beaumont, Texas -- A woman was rushed to the hospital Wednesday night after police say she jumped off an Eastex Freeway overpass to escape from police and troopers.

A Department of Public Safety spokesperson says two women were shoplifting at Dillard's at Parkdale Mall. The two fled from the store and tried to cross Eastex Freeway at Dowlen Road. A DPS trooper spotted the women and turned on his lights.

One of the women jumped off of the overpass and fell 15 feet to the ground. She was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

The other woman was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

The names of the women have not been released pending formal arraignment.
