An early morning rollover accident at the intersection of Kostoryz and Staples claimed the life of a 22-year old man on Monday.
The Corpus Christi Police Department said it was just after 5:45 a.m. that a sport utility vehicle was traveling north on Kostoryz and rolled over while attempting to make a turn on Staples.
Out of the four passengers in the car, one was not wearing his seat belt. He later died at the scene. The victim was identified as 22-year old Jonathan Aleman from Corpus Christi.
As for the driver, 22-year old Michael Valenzuela, police said he was intoxicated and was later arrested.
"We really urge the public to wear your seat belt," CCPD Officer Kirk Stowers said. "This is a time to remind everyone of impaired driving. Be mindful of that. If you go out and are going to have a drink, call a cab. Call for a tow truck. Call somebody. Just don't drive impaired."
Valenzuela was charged with intoxication manslaughter and possession of marijuana.
