Police Investigate First Homicide of 2013

Police are investigating the first homicide of 2013, after a shooting at the Aztec Manor Apartments in Flour Bluff left a 35-year old man dead on Tuesday.

Authorities were called out to the apartment complex, located on Behmann and Matlock, just before 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found an injured 35-year old man in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

According to police, witnesses said that the gunman had gone inside an apartment and refused to come out. Officers then evacuated nearby apartments and called in the Corpus Christi Police Department's SWAT Team, as well as the CCPD Hostage Negotiating team.

A dialogue was started with the 22-year old suspect, and he eventually surrendered peacefully at around 4:45 a.m.
