For Catholics, Tuesday was more than just New Year's Day. It is also a holy day of obligation.
Bishop Michael Mulvey celebrated the Feast of Mary Mother of God at St. Peter's Church in Rockport Tuesday morning. As part of the service, a special statue was blessed.
"So we dedicated this statue, which has been moved here to the property to remind us that we have a mother that brought us Jesus Christ, who is the prince of peace," Mulvey said. "And so we proclaim her Mother of God and Mother of Peace. So especially today, I've invited the people and the whole diocese to allow this to be a year of peace, and that we all be peacemakers."
Tuesday also happens to be World Day of Peace for the Catholic church.
